Hardware saw the biggest drop, sinking 23 percent to $380.74 million. The top US platform of the month was the newly $199 Wii with 506,900 units sold, followed by the DS with 457,600 units. Some 320,600 PlayStation 3s were sold, followed by the Xbox 360 with 249,700 units and the PSP with 174,600 units. The PlayStation 2, which celebrated its ninth birthday in October, sold 117,800 units.

Modern Warfare 2 sales figures were released today. Single day figures broke all records including the 631,000 unit sales of Grand Theft Auto IV.

Modern Warfare 2 sales totaled an amazing 1.23 million units within the first 24 hours. These figures do not include the releases of Modern Warfare for Wii and DS.

Reviews

The game has recieved universal acclaim among major review aggreagate sites. Metacritic rates the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game at 96%. Positive reviews cite a “compelling story mode, a slick package of mini missions and a multiplayer which is pretty much unparalleled in depth.”“Telegraph.co.uk.

Criticisms of the game focus on single player campaign length. IGN’s Mark Bozon remarks, “Modern Warfare 2 is surprisingly short, and doesn’t live up to the standard set by previous Call of Duty games.”

Edge Online. and user-submitted aggregate scores of the PC version have been negative. Metacritic, IGN, and Amazon.com all have user scores that average below 35%. Critics claim the lack of dedicated servers (and therefore serverside modifications), console commands, support for matches larger than 18 players, and inability to vote to kick players as major reasons.
